Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured and effective therapy designed to help people process distressing memories and the impact of past traumatic experiences. It supports the brain in reprocessing difficult events so that they no longer feel as overwhelming or intrusive.
When we experience trauma or ongoing stress, our brain sometimes struggles to process what has happened. This can leave us feeling “stuck” in the emotional impact of those events.
EMDR helps to unlock these memories and allows the brain to reprocess them in a more adaptive way. The goal is not to erase the memory, but to reduce the distress attached to it and help you regain a sense of calm and control.
How I Work with EMDR
I am a Consultant EMDR therapist accredited by the EMDR Association UK and EMDR Europe with over 14 years of experience. I have used this approach for many years and have seen first-hand how powerful and transformative it can be.
I use EMDR to help clients who are struggling with trauma, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, and other difficulties that stem from distressing life experiences.
During EMDR sessions, I guide you through a series of gentle eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, such as tapping or sound. These movements help your brain to reprocess difficult memories safely, while we focus together on managing emotions that may arise. Every session is carried out at a pace that feels right for you, and we always ensure that you feel grounded and supported throughout the process.
Many of my clients notice changes quite quickly — for example, feeling calmer when recalling difficult memories, sleeping better, or being less reactive to stress. However, each person’s experience is unique, and progress depends on your individual history and goals.
Why Choose EMDR?
EMDR is recognised internationally as an evidence-based treatment for trauma and related conditions. It is endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS).
Although EMDR is best known for treating PTSD, I have also used it successfully to help people with anxiety, depression, phobias, grief, chronic pain, and other issues that have an emotional or traumatic component.
Because EMDR works at both a cognitive and emotional level, it can bring about deep and lasting change.
If you are interested in EMDR therapy, we can discuss whether it might be a good fit for your particular circumstances during an initial consultation.
My role is to ensure that you always feel safe, respected, and supported as you begin this process of healing.
